David Prutton makes bold predictions for Leeds United and Sunderland this weekend.
Leeds United will aim to return to the top two on Sunday with a victory over Swansea City, while hoping for a slip-up from the teams ahead of them.
The international break has ended, and Leeds United are back in Championship action on Sunday, hoping the extended rest has given their squad the time to regain full match sharpness.
Following their 2-0 victory over QPR in their last outing, there is optimism that Leeds can find their best form in the promotion race and start solidifying their position in the top two.
David Prutton predicts the outcome of the Swansea City vs. Leeds United match.
Leeds United face Luke Williams’ Swansea City next as league action resumes, taking on a side with the fourth-best defence but the lowest goals scored tally in the division (11 scored, 10 conceded).
A win for Leeds United would see them make history in South Wales, as a victory would mark three consecutive away wins against Swansea City – a feat shared by host Simeon Gholam on the Championship Predictions Podcast.
David Prutton offered his prediction for the match, backing Leeds to edge out a narrow win:
“Leeds got back to winning ways against QPR after that tough loss at Millwall.
“Swansea, under Luke Williams, are sitting 11th – it’s going to be a tough challenge for Leeds. We’ve seen Swansea struggle to find their rhythm, but they’re always tricky opponents.
“There’s usually a bit of bite in this fixture. Leeds tend to make rivals wherever they go, and the rivalry between these two clubs in the second tier is something to keep an eye on. The atmosphere will definitely be electric.”
Leeds will know their fate in the promotion race by Sunday, with both Sheffield United and Sunderland in action on Saturday. The top two teams will play before Leeds take to the field, giving them a chance to assess their position.
Sheffield United start the day with a 12:30pm trip to Coventry City, now under new management. Prutton expects Chris Wilder’s side to come through with a comfortable 2-0 win.
Meanwhile, Sunderland face a tough test away at Millwall, where Prutton predicts the Lions will edge out a 1-0 victory.
If those results play out, Leeds would move up to second, ahead of Sunderland by a point, while Sheffield United would take the top spot, two points clear of Daniel Farke’s men.
The top four face a challenging set of fixtures this weekend, with Leeds among those in for a tough test.
The top four face tough away trips this weekend, each taking on sides with aspirations of a top-half finish.
Coventry, despite their struggles, will be hoping to challenge Sheffield United, much like they did against Sunderland before the break. While their form makes them vulnerable, their squad is still capable of causing problems.
Leeds, on the other hand, have a tricky trip to Swansea. The Swans have been solid defensively, with a strong centre-back pairing that will make it hard for Leeds to break them down.
If Leeds can come through this weekend still in the top two, it will be a huge boost, and hopefully, it will spark a strong run of form under Farke.
