New Details Emerge on Leeds United’s £12.5m Pre-Agreed Transfer Clause

Leeds United could face a permanent departure for right-back Rasmus Kristensen this season, though Eintracht Frankfurt may not activate his buy option.

Two players from Elland Road are currently out on loan due to contractual clauses that keep them away from Leeds while the club is not in the Premier League.

Rasmus Kristensen is one of them, having joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a loan deal running through to the end of the 2024/25 season, and he appears to be performing well at the moment.

Here, we take a closer look at what we know about Rasmus Kristensen’s transfer situation as Eintracht Frankfurt heads toward a potential permanent decision.

Leeds acquired Kristensen from Red Bull Salzburg for a reported £10million to strengthen their right-back position under Jesse Marsch in the summer of 2022.

He signed a contract lasting until 2027, with three years still remaining.

Kristensen joined Leeds in the Premier League on a reported £40,000-per-week salary, amounting to £2,080,000 annually, according to Capology.

However, with the rest of the squad facing pay cuts of 50-60%, as reported by The Athletic, Kristensen’s wages have been similarly reduced. This brings his weekly earnings down to approximately £16,000-£20,000 while Leeds are in the Championship. Additionally, his contract includes a loan clause, allowing him to move to another club, such as Eintracht this season, with that club covering his wages.

Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports Germany provided an important update this month, revealing that Eintracht is showing strong interest in securing Kristensen on a permanent deal.

A contrasting report from Bild in November suggests that the €15million (£12.5million) buy option is not on the table for Eintracht. Instead, they are aiming to negotiate a new fee for Kristensen, reportedly “well below €10million” (£8.3million).

It remains uncertain whether Leeds will accept such an offer, but it seems likely they will continue loaning out the player if they fail to secure promotion this season.

What is Kristensen’s value based on PSR terms?

Kristensen’s £10million transfer to Leeds in 2022 was part of a five-year contract, and he is now into his third year with the club.

The fee was amortised over five years, meaning his book value decreases by £2million each season.

By the end of this third season, his value should have dropped to £4million, with two years remaining on his contract after this campaign.

For a potential transfer, any fee above this amount would be recorded as a PSR profit for Leeds.
