Milan’s Bold Alvarez Swap Deal Proposal Amid Desperation
As reported yesterday, AC Milan has put forward a daring swap deal to bring Edson Alvarez from West Ham, offering Ruben Loftus-Cheek as part of the exchange.
Milan’s coach, Paulo Fonseca, recently shifted to a 4-4-2 formation, relegating Ruben Loftus-Cheek to the bench. The English midfielder may be sold in the upcoming winter or summer transfer windows, but Milan appears eager to use him in a part-exchange deal.
Fonseca, once a target for West Ham, is under heavy pressure to keep his job after a poor start to the season, including back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and city rivals Inter. On the brink of being sacked, he switched tactics, leading Milan to a 3-0 victory over Lecce in Serie A.
It seems Loftus-Cheek is no longer needed and is being circulated among clubs in Europe by agents, as Milan lacks the funds for a replacement. This has drawn attention to Alvarez, but it’s important to note that this would not be an equitable swap.
Milan would need to bolster the offer with cash to West Ham, making the transfer unlikely. Additionally, Fonseca’s team suffered a defeat to Fiorentina before the international break, and another loss to Udinese in their next match could see the Rossoneri drop out of the top ten.
Fonseca has been connected to the Hammers’ job for over four years, and if he leaves, David Moyes has been mentioned as a potential replacement.
